FirstName: Anna Hughes

LastName: Jones

BirthDate: 1855-1856

Personal: Anna Hughes Jones was the MAIN child of the 7 kids produced from the marriage of Meechak and Sarah Jones whose offspring descendants led to the evolution of the STEWARD Family! She was the GrandMother to the Steward children. As told by Winona Steward, Anna Hughes Jones had once belonged to a traveling Vocal Group named the "Wilberforce Concert Company". Anna sang 'Alto'. She and her group traveled and peformed at places in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, and several other states. They did about 215 concerts in 1881 and made about $7,220.00 that year! A gentleman by the name of F.A. Stewart came all the way up from the College of Central Tennessee in Nashville in 1871 to form this Vocal Group. If you stop to think of it, to hear of such groups consisting of African Americans making money traveling the states singing back in those days......I mean, what kind of music must it have been?? What kinds of crowds were there?? What kinds of problems did they endure?? Very interesting stuff that is....! As time went on and Anna matured to adulthood, she later wed Zachariah Coleman. They went on to produce 1 child by the name of WINONA COLEMAN who would later marry a gentlman by the name of GUSTAVOUS ADOLPHOS STEWARD. Together, both Winona Coleman and Gustavous Steward produced the 4 Steward children. As this is the only information concerning Anna Hughes, and as more data continues to 'roll' in, her BIO webpage will be updated and processed accordingly. The "Main" items of interest here, are that Anna Hughes's offspring are DIRECT Descendants to the Steward Generations.
