Personal: Chris Powell was the oldest of 5 children produced from the marriage of Joseph Powell and his wife Winona Steward. He was born overseas in Germany when his father was in the Military. Chris and his family had moved around quite a bit because of his father's job situation. He and his family spent the majority of their time living in Columbus, Ohio. As Chris grew up in the communtiy of Southfield, he developed a taste for Music. He took up playing the Saxaphone as an early teanager. He eventually was playing in his High School's Jazz and Dance bands. He and some of his other friends in the neighborhood started up their own band. His first group was called the "Soul Superbs" They cut a '45' Record out in the late 60's titled 'Cannibals'. It was played over the Air on Radio Station WVKO. His band started entering in many local talent contests and the majority of the time they'd take 1st place! He then moved on and started several other bands. When he was with "Nytro" and they were playing in front of a 'wild' crowd at Los Angeles' famous 'Roxy' theatre in the mid-to-late-70's, Rick James, the Leader of this nationally known Soul-Funk band liked Nytro's 'horn' section so much that he inquired to Chris to leave "Nytro" and join his band. As Chris left "Nytro" for Rick James, his career skyrocketed as he was seen on TV's "Saturday Night Live" and also CBS while the "Grammy Awards" were being presented. All this was during the year 1982. After several years of playing '2nd fiddle' with Rick James Band, Chris decided he had had enough and wanted to take what he had learned whle with Rick James' band and apply it to Producing/Directing his own and other future bands. He started "KokoPop" and "Teen Dream". Both of those groups had several Albums and Videos made and were even in the Billboard Top 130 Nationally! There were other bands and Single Artists he dealt with during this time also. To this day, Chris still is into Producing other future Aritsts, Singers, Writers, Rappers, Musicians as he strives to one day hit it BIG and become a very successful well known player in the current Music Industry! Currently, he operates/owns a 2-story building that's monetarily funded by the State and other organizations. This building provides would-be Artists to hone their skills to one day becoming Produced and Directed by Chris and one day hopefully getting their own Record Deals towards becoming Nationally known Stars! Chris has been involved with the 'Music' scene since his days as a youngster. He really hasn't had a 'Real' 9-5 job in his entire life! He never got married, but, has a son named Brandon through his relationship with a lady by the name of Randy Logan. He's now 49, and he'll continue to keep knockin' at the door until he reaches the Top of his Music Success!
